6.4 Issue

Hey Guys,

Got a 10 6.4 on its way in here, they say the trans temp guage is staying at cold, CEL is on, and the wrench light is on. I'm assuming its the trans temp sensor, I don't do too much work on the 6.4 and I was just trying to see if there was anything common to the truck.

I need to start learning my way around these things as I'm starting to get more and more calls on them.

Thanks,

Sarge

Just needed a trans temp sensor, anyone know the trans capacity for a pan removal and filter replacement so I can get fluid in this thing to be able to do the flush?

Not sure on the capacity of fluid, however I would take it to get it "hot flushed" Why?? I was planning on doing the same as you and my guy told me and its also in a few other places in this site is that the trans has thermostats in it, and if its not hot flushed it will not flush out completely. Now here is another note, so do what makes you feel more secure, but changing the filter is not required from what I hear and from what the dealer says, Even a trans flush at the dealership will not get you a filter change anymore. So if you want the filter changed you will have to specify that but take it to someone who has a temp controled flush machine to do it correctly. Just my 2 cents

I'm well aware of it needing to be flushed I have the machine to do it, but I needed to drain the fluid and remove the pan to replace the temp sensor so I needed a starting point to fill it so I can flush it. The customer over filled it to the point that it was pushing fluid out the vent.

Been around the 6.0 for a long time I just don't see a lot of 6.4's and I know the pan was different and it took more fluid. Put 8.5 qts in and its all good.
