That lock on the weigh-safe is what worried me too.. The main time I use my hitch is in the winter to pull the sleds. So a cap is required.
My perfect hitch one be one where I can remove the drop portion easily, but still leave a stub shaft coming out of the reciever since I have a set of Rock Tamers hanging off the hitch all the time so I don't beat the crap out of the front of the horse trailer and snowmobile trailers.
I looked and didn't see another thread on this so hopefully I'm not missing one.
For any of you interested in a new 3" Weigh-Safe Ball Mount, I emailed them and got the below answer yesterday.
Yes, we are in the process of coming out with the 3"receiver. It should be available beginning of November so keep your eyeout for that. Please let me know if you have any other questions. Thank you!
Any word on the Weigh-Safe 3" shank? Was the beginning of November, then SEMA, then middle of November, saw on their FB page December 1st. Now the 2nd and still nothing posted on their website.
They told me they wouldn't do a group buy so I'm waiting for the resellers to start picking up the 3" line. There's very often a 10-15% off deal plus free shipping out there.
I will wait until I get a truck to decide on the drop. 8" seems to long and could be a nuisance in some terrain. Now, if someone were to design a similar hitch with an offset on the ball carrier the track could be shorter and and still have a long reach when required, and then reversible? Could reach even higher. Well, there goes a million dollar idea for the next generation hitch.
I posted this in another thread last week. This is the B&W tow and stow with a 7" drop. I don't think anyone would need more than that unless you plan on lifting it. It's not a 3" shank but the 2 1/2" gives me 14000# which is plenty for my bumper pull stuff. What I like about the B&W is: I can lock it with only a locking receiver hitch pin (when the ***** are in the stow position they can't be removed if the hitch is locked into the receiver) and the fact that in the "stow" position it's out of the way from my shins. Also I see no need to remove it to store it and take the chance of getting my truck greasy.
Finally, Rob get off of the Internet and go find your truck! LOL
B&W has some smart engineers. See that groove in the side of the tubing? That is how you remove the ball assembly. With it locked into the receiver tube you can't get the assembly high enough to remove it
