When I first got my truck, I could hear the float rubbing up against the inside of the gas tank and the gas gauge would never read higher than half full --the float was catching on one of the indentions on the inside, front of the tank. I took the sender assembly out and slightly bent the arm (towards the rear of the tank) so that the float and arm assembly would move freely.
That's what I think is probably happening. Just wasn't sure it was possible. Sometimes I can hear it bumping around in there.
