Transmission 6.0

Hey guys, I was wondering about some ideas to keep my tranny cool. I very RARELY tow, and yet when I'm in traffic or in the desert my tranny starts to get up to 190s, which I would assume anything passed 195 is extreme... Anyways, what would be some first step mods to my transmission, bigger pan, Go-Go solenoid..? Any ideas?

Though 190-195 is warmer than the normal, those temps wouldn't be a concern to me for running too warm. For many vehicles that is the norm.
From the factory these have excellent cooling capabilities and I don't know anyone that needed more.
Have you towed a heavy trailer to see if it will get hotter or does it stay around 190?
There are aftermarket coolers available of course. Maybe someone else will chime in.

My 2005 runs 145-160. Max ever 179. Loaded heavy or not.The harder I work the truck the cooler the trans temp is.(Fan is on hard.)

I'd be sure you have good air flow through the cooling stack too. I see 190s+, but that is truck + camper + horse trailer + towing uphill + hot day...

Oh, and a bigger pan won't do it, but a larger cooler would...

195 is absolutely normal. I don't worry until it's over 230F.

I don't think you can find a better cooler that will fit in your truck. Check between the radiator and cooler for any debris that may be blocking the airflow.

This is exactly why 7.3 folks install them on their truck.

While you're at it, pull your intercooler and radiator to make sure the fins are clean and don't have any mud or debris blocking them.

Excuse my ignorance up front here, but I thought when I was looking at these a few years back for a friend with a 7.3, that there were actually two different size coolers for the Torqshift, one having more rows. Is that something you can validate Mark?

I've heard the early built 04s have the smaller radiator , 05 up are larger, hopefully Mark can give some truth to this?

2003 and 2004 had a 31 row trans cooler. 2005-2010 had a 26 row cooler. The smaller cooler has internal changes that make it more efficient. We measured the same cooling with both sizes.
