Recently, after running pretty strong for almost 8 months, my 1960 with a 223 six won't run properly. I start it up, and it dies immediately. It will not idle unless I pull out the choke and leave it, or constantly have my foot on the gas. I don't have a good idea of why this is happening, maybe a vacuum leak or the carb needs to be tuned? If anyone has an idea as to what's wrong or what to do, any help is much appreciated. Thanks!
Vac leak most likely with symptoms like that.
check the carb bolts are tight so air can't get in around the carb base plate, check that the base plate gasket hasn't broke and has a chunk missing outta it.
alllso check that the vac hose that runs over to the wiper motor is in good order.
how's about the vac line over to the distributor, is in good order, hasn't worked loose, diaphragm in the dist. advance hasn't given up the ghost and allowing air to leak in around it.
Just a few EZ things to get started looking for.
