1961 RANCHERO

Its been a while since my last post but you people have always done me right so here goes, I had an old friend bring me his 1961 ranchero thats not running good. straight six with a one barel carb. The thing will not run without the choke on. He took the carb in and had it rebuilt but it seemed to do nothing, still runs the same. I checked for what I thought was a vacuum leak but can not find any, if you screw the air fuel in all the way the thing runs the same, still sounds like a vacuum leak to me, but I'm not sure where it might be. I hope someone here has had a similar problem and shed some light......Thanks for reading

Well is it timed correctly, does it smoke really bad, has it had a tune up recently? There is a lot more to making an engine run well than just rebuilding the carb.

Sounds like a vacuum leak to me, too.
Have you got a different carb you could try?

Check/replace the gasket underneath the carb and also under the carb spacer if you have one.

61 ranchero

The engine was rebuilt a couple of years ago and was running great till recently. We did put fresh gas in it and checked the gaskets under the carb for air/vacuum leaks. The timing is right on and no smoke. It has the 170 engine in it and I know that it it takes alot more to making an engine run good than rebuilding a carb. This is just my starting point..

61 RANCHERO

i sprayed around the base several times and have found nothing. There is no fittings and the manifold is part of the head ( so no gasket there ). Has anyone had experience with these carbs and do you thing there could be an internal vacuum leak in the carb, or is that even possible ?........Thanks

Try a different carb.
This new fuel seperates. Flamable on top, water on
bottom, add a few days in the 20 degree range = junk carb.

Check your spark, weak spark does alot of crazy things.
