ok well just rebuilt my 2 barrel carb off a 1977 ford f250 with a 5.8 351M what the heck do i set it to? cuz the only way my truck will run is if i have my foot ALL the way down on the pedal then it will start...but if i let off just the slightest bit....it stalls.....now just so yall know, if it matters, i just replaced the distributor, cam, starter coil and ignition module.....i just wanna drive it again...i miss my truck
bottom out idle mixture screws on the bottom of the carb lightly then back them out 2 1/2 turns that will get the idle mixture in the ballpark, make sure the choke is not set to tight. check and make sure you set the float level that the kit specified.check all vaccum ports on the carb and manifold, if it is an automatic make sure you hooked up the vaccum line from the modulator on the bottom of the trans to the tree on the back of the manifold. that will get you started it sounds like the motor is running really rich (too much gas not enough air ) that can be caused by the choke not opening or a vaccum leak sometimes the rods that go through the carb that hold the discs that control throttle will wear and let air around them which causes a vaccum leak. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE CLEAN SPARK PLUGS BEFORE YOU TRY STARTING IT AGAIN.
ok kinda an embarrassing thing....well first thing i plugged everything i could find...then i called my parents mechanic kinda thing i really never do and i asked him y it was soin wut it was doin and he said run the choke str8 open and make sure your timin was down to a T ...perfect....he said 10 degrees advanced....i said hmm aight....turned it a lil bit advanced vroooommm idled right up..drove it down the street...felt good again...pulled in the drive way through it in neutral and it stalled out on me....and now i cant keep it idling ne more wut did i do?!
ok fuel filters are brand new, gas tank is clean as a wistle, carb rebuilt, spark plugs are brand new autolites...and new wires...for more info check out my other post: "3rd starter in 3 weeks"
sumtimes it blows black smoke but not often i have the idle mixture screws turned out bout 3 turns but if i hop on it....it sputters out the carb....1 gear too much throttle and sputters, shift into 2nd too much throttle and it sputters...and so on...
yea the carb back fired and too much throttle is about and inch.....but...last night i set the idle mixture screws at about 2 timed it just perfect(via distributor) and took it for a drive....NOW i can hop on it and it aint gonna sputter and die or what not...but if im sitting at idle in neutral....if i hit the gas quick it goes speeeew out the carb....am i ever gonna solve this? lol thank for helpin guys.....
