A couple of weeks ago I heard what sounded like a loose heat shield, coming from under the Ex. It went away, but then came back a few days ago. I got underneath and looked at all the welds on heat shields and for anything that seemed loose, I found nothing. Yesterday it started sounding like a card in bicycle spokes, coming from the right rear. This afternoon I pulled the wheel off along with the brake caliper and disc. What I found was that one of the springs on the parking brake shoes had broke and has been ground up in the drum. I didn't take any pictures, but thought if others hear that sound it's something you may want to check.
Did i sound like it was coming from the front? I have a rattle noise like that but no idea what it is and sounds like its coming from the front some where.
Initially it just seemed like it was something underneath, more towards the rear. When my ten year old was sitting in the third row, he was like "Dad something right under me is making noise" I never felt like it was coming from the front.

Ive had a rattle like that for months now. I couldn't find the source. Had it at the mechanics a few weeks ago to have him take a look at everything before our Outerbanks trip and wouldnt make the noise for him. Driving away from his shop it started again. I figure whatever it is will eventually fall off. I recently replaced the emergency brakes so there all set not from there.
It does it when you just start accelerating about I'm guessing 1200-1500 rpm irst and second gear. But not all the time. It has gotten worst lately. Im gonna look at it again soon.

I had a similar issue, slight scraping noise when turning left. Mine was the RR parking brake pin (holds the shoes to the backing plate) pulled through backing plate. My truck has very, very little rust on it but the backing were soft as can be. I ordered the Dorman replacements and the p. brake is back to functioning and no noises!
My pick up makes the same noise. I thought it was that heat shield towards the front and rewelded it but it didn't help. When I had the tranny rebuilt the shop took it off and it still makes that sound under acceleration. I suspect that it might be the muffler. That is on my list of things to change on it.
