I'm looking for pics if anyone has had this done to the stock lighted running boards. My running boards are pretty sun faded as well as the step cover for my rear bumper. I'm considering having them sprayed with linex since it's much cheaper than replacing with new. I'm only concerned that it would affect the lighting covers.
I had the tubular steps on my explorer sprayed by ameriguard since my cousin owns the business. They turned out great and have weathered well. I like the look. Sorry, no pics.
Are you thinking of spraying the steps body color to match or just black?
I just painted mine black, holding up pretty well so fare.
What did you paint it with?
My concerns are if it is sprayed with linex will it be cleanly done to allow for the light to pop out without interfering. Also I have heard that spray on liners while dry are great for traction but wet are slicker than owl poop. Not good for a lifted truck!
I want to go black because my truck is black with gold trim and I think the black running boards will look better than the tan ones.

I did mine in dupicolor trim black. Before was tan. After was black. And still looks great after a year
Mine are not slick when wet. There is so much more texture from the aggregate with the professionally sprayed liner than the over the counter stuff, maybe that's why you've heard they're slick when wet.

On my previous truck, I had my N-Fab Nerf Steps coated with Line-X. Not slippery at all when wet, and extremely durable.

Spotted owl or barn owl?
But seriously, I have the rock sliders on my Explorer painted with rattle can bedliner. I like it because it's an easy touchup. But it wears quickly and is pretty slippery even before it's worn completely down to bare metal.
So I got some black skateboard grip tape and put it in the high traffic areas along the rock sliders. Tons of traction now- and a sheet of the stuff costs about $10 and I have a bunch of extra.
