The truck now only gets about 2 miles down the road before it dies, will not restart. I have to wait along time( presumably for it to cool down) before it will start. ...snip... At any rate the engine get to operating temp then it acts up...
This sounds like the IPR is failing when hot, a known symptom. Next time dump a Big Gulp of ice on the IPR to cool it off. If it starts you have the answer.

Ill just make plans to change out the IPR with OEM replacement.

Just called the FORD dealer and they want $281.35 for a new one with part number F81Z-9C968-AB but I have found multiple OEM ones on various internet sites for about $150....looks like a 3rd party vendor gets be business this time.

Stay on top of things and make sure that you get OEM. I once got a steal on a water temp sensor, pic showed the sensor, ford insignia on it and all but when it showed up it was a knock-off and it didn't work. That IPR is one pricey item.
Ya I figured that OEM is the only way to run with the 7.3.... my other truck( 2013 F150 w/ V6 eccoboost) might get away with less than OEM on some stuff.
maybe already checked, but wiring under loom bit me, then the brass nut fell off, if you haven't checked would highly recommend inspecting wires for IPR
