I have a msd box and coil on my truck but I get a dragging start once it's been warms up should I put a hei distributor in place of this set up? Anyone else have a msd ignition setup?
If the MSD is in good order I'd keep it. Dragging hot start could be lots of things and probably not caused by the ignition system. I have run an MSD on a car for 15 years w/o issue.
If the start is dragging meaning slow cranking, it could be weak connections, corroded cables (sometimes inside the plastic insulation), a weak starter, a weak battery or excess ignition advance.
I'd start by going over the cables and grounds. Clean all connections and inspect all wires. Then get the battery checked. If there is a question about ignition timing, set that. If it still drags, the starter is likely weak and cannot take the heat after running.
