So i scooped up a ranger that had a cracked radiator. Replaced radiator in about 30 minutes. Got it fired up and coolant was going everywhere out the exhaust. No coolant in the oil or oil in coolant. What do you guys think it is?
Cracked head not unheard of in the 4.0, was more common in earlier 2.8/2.9 motors. OHV motor is usually trouble free, vs. the SOHC motor which has serious cam chain issues right out of the box.
With those miles on it, look for a replacement or figure on a rebuild. It was no doubt overheated x number of times due to that radiator issue. Overheating is not our friend in general and really not our friend on these motors.
SOHC motor will not work without the ECM and harness changes etc. IMO RUN from any used SOHC motor. Only those already so inflicted should deal with that engine.
I am pretty sure that any OHV 4.0 will work. But you have to transplant your intake and any wire, sensor etc, intake or exhaust so that your ECM will run the engine. And check for accessory compatibility.
