Coolant additive

Is anyone familiar with the effectiveness of coolant additives? The reason I ask is that I drive my 2001 ranger 4.0 about once every 2 months on a 700-900 mile trip. Then it sits in the garage again for another 2 months without being started.

I change the oil before most trips, but a radiator shop guy told me that infrequent running causes damage to the coolant system. I have found 2 additvies: Pro Cool @$20/ 9 oz.and No-Rosion @ $24.95/half gal. Each of the instructions say to add 8 oz to the cooling system every 12 months. I've never been a believer in oil additves, but maybe there is validity for the need in today's coolant systems.

Coolant additive

I found this link and thought it interesting. I tend to doubt the need for additives to your system.

Let me guess. The radiator guy just happened to have some of that snake oil additive for sale?
