Hi guys, i was hoping so of you might be able to give me some advice. On my way home from work my truck started to act like it was dying. I quickly turned off the heater, i dont know why i just did. When i did this it seemed to help but a few more miles down the road i turned it back on to see what would happen. I had no heat and then my truck started smoking really bad and i was forced to pull over. From what i can tell nothing came unhooked but i did notice that my coolant reservoir is no full and the lid was open. It was not like this when i left. Best i can tell is my engine evacted all of my coolant back into the reservoir. Any ideas? If anyone need more info just ask and i will tell you what i can. Thanks and have a nice day.
Im going to suggest you get one of those "carbon in the coolant" test kits and see what it reads.
oil in coolant? Coolant in the oil?
Something has pressurized the coolant system and pushed it out. Sounds suspiciously like a blown gasket that caused the coolant to run away and then an overheat condition. Thats really the best idea I have that fits the symptom you described.
No oil in the coolant as far as i can tell. I looks like i had a bad connection on one of the fittings for the radiator that probably cause the smoke. ( Coolant + hot engine). I know if i try to start it fluid is forced out of the radiator. I tested this by having the radiator cap off while trying to start it with only about a gallon in the system. I will be checking more things out tomorrow.
