My Jimmi Jammers got their second challenge today, this time into the lock cylinder in the driver's side. Since I just used my key to open it this morning and it will no longer accept a key, I know it happened today. What do I do now? I assume I can buy a new lock cylinder and I suppose I should, so as to be able to get in with a dead battery. I don't recall removing the passenger side one, but I guess I did. Is it a pretty straight forward job to change that cylinder? Is it necessary to go to Ford or are there after market ones that can be set to my key?
There are aftermarket ones you can buy if you have a 99-07 truck. Otherwise I'd think you'd have to go to Ford since pats would be involved.
Thanks for the response. I think I'll call the Jimmi Jammer folks themselves and see what advice they have. Since this seems to be a regular pattern around here, I may just pull the lock cylinder and put in the dummy. I can always call AAA if I get locked out!
Are there any additional options on the market? My truck has been broken into 3 times now in 18 months. I even installed a Console Vault, didn't matter this time, they had a cordless drill and took everything they wanted...... I like the idea of the jimmy jammers, but in my case(s) they have just broken the entire door lock assembly completely off.
You could replace the driver's handle with one from the back door of a 4dr truck. Then you attach a pair of wires to one of the door lock solenoid circuits, drill hole and pass the wires through the cab in some place that not obvious. You then only need apply a momentary 12vdc source to these wires to actuate the door lock solenoid(s) should the battery go dead.
The driver's door handle is on the far left and the passenger door handle for driver side is on far right.
