ignition cylinder lock

Need forum expertise/advise. I own a 2006 f350 6.0 the cylinder lock has a lot of slop. This as led to the battery running down on several occasions. I priced a cylinder lock from ford 112.00 but the kicker is they want an addtional 145.00to match my current key to the new cylinder lock. Any thoughts or advice on this matter will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance Chuck

Check with some good locksmiths and see if they can get you a cylinder lock and/or match it to your existing key. Not many locksmiths may be able to actually get you the cylinder, but I'm pretty sure any decent locksmith should be able to re-pin it for your key. And probably for way less than Ford wants.

Your other option is to just carry two keys. One for the doors and one for the ignition.

Locksmith is much cheaper. I keyed mine myself because I am "frugal". You can mess it up in a hurry if you are not careful though.

$145 to code a cylinder?! Guess I need to start charging $100 more. Its really easy and you could do it yourself. The cylinder kit is 1L3Z 11582-A, It comes with instructions in the box.
