Lock cylinder quesiton
Does anybody know if the door lock cylinders on our trucks are keyed on one side or on both?

The keys are double-sided for convenience..

However, I am fairly certain that the hole itself is only side, judging by the fact that when u make a bad key and it will work in one direction but not when u flip it.

That's what i thought too, but when i called a locksmith to see if a key could be cut differently on two sides for two different vehicles he said it wouldn't work in either, guess i gotta try and convince them to do it anyway now

Interesting, let us know. I've got a local lock smith that only charges $1.50 a key, so even if it didn't work, wouldn't be a waste, just a cheap failed experiment.

Went to a locksmith and he swore up and down that the door locks are double sided, I think i'm going to get a copy made tomorrow, file off one side and test it.

It'd be really great if it did especially for those of us that have 2 vehicles as long as either one or neither have a transponder key

My lock smith told me the same thing, the locks are double sided. Someone needs to grind off one side of a spare key to verify this.

Just did, no dice, looks like my idea won't work after all

Edit: i think on older GM vehicles (80s-90s) you could do this because my friend has a k5 that's only cut on one side

i just tried it and it is no go. the key must be cut the same on both sides to work in the 04.

i did not try the door locks, i went straight to the ignition.
