Hello all, i am getting a slide in camper.....i am new to wiring campers up. I have a 02 F350 CC 7.3.....it has the camper package listed in the options on the original sticker. Now is there a plug in harness for the electrical on the left side of the frame i can run up to the bed???????? torklift makes a three way harness, but i am not sure in need that....... Is the camper plug thats usually on the inside of the bed towards the front the exact same as the trailer harness??????? theres not much on the ole inter web on this subject.
You don't say if your Truck Camper (TC) will be new or used. With new, they usually come with a connector harness that goes from your truck's 7 pin plug (usually under the rear bumper on the left hand side) and plugs in directly to a 7 pin receiver on your TC. (my receiver is inside the LR "wing").
Now, if you want to tow something and carry a TC too, then you will need to have a shop (I used the RV shop) make up a three way, 7 pin harness (a splitter if you will). You said they are also available pre-made ... that's good too. That way you'll be able to plug in your TC and whatever you're towing and all your brake/turn/running lights will function on both units.
On my 99 SD with camper package it has a 7 pin socket in the bed but it is under the drop-in bed liner and there is no hole cut through the bed liner for it. It appears to have never been used. It was spliced into the same harness as the bumper trailer socket after the Ford harness connector. You should be able to see all the wiring under it on the left side. If it is there you will see it, that should be the only wiring there unless you have marker lights for dually fenders.
SD trailer plug in bed, picture was taken laying behind left rear tire looking up and forward.
If I were going to replace the wiring on mine, I would use the prefab T harness that uses the factory Ford weather pack connectors. It makes it a quick and simple 5 minute job as opposed to cutting and splicing.
What a timely post! I just spent all afternoon today, splicing an extension cable from my new to me TC. My 2001 F-250 didn't have the camper package so I have to plug TC into the regular trailer plug below rear bumper and cable from TC only made it half way. It would have reached the plug that you showed w/camper pkg!
Cool, i just went and looked under the truck but most of the harness is in the frame and blocked by the gas tank i am guessing that the spot i need to get to is there so i will have to drop the tank???????? there has to be a easier way!!!!!!!!!! does ford sell a splice kit that plugs in on the rear harness????

Yes, that's why they put it there

The trailer wiring connector should be right at the bumper or the rear most cross member.
I never thought to get one from a dealership, I found several options online. Amazon and several other sites online have ready made harnesses that simply plug in to what you already have.
If you already have the 6 or 7 pin at the rear bumper then what you need is a T harness that plugs in the original harness that is already on your truck. Like I said, it depends on what you have installed already as to what you need to get but I would be surprised if an F350 didn't already have a 6 or 7 pin on the bumper. https://www.etrailer.com/t1-2002_For...Super+Duty.htm
There is a U-Haul store here in town that sells and installs whatever is necessary to correctly install lights and trailer brakes to safely pull one of their trailers that they rent. If they don't have it in stock they can order it for you. There may be one near you that can point you in the right direction if you are not sure what you need.
