I have noticed a lot of you would like to have a factory trailer harness inside the bed. This is a great idea, as I hate my wiring hanging over the tailgate. I was looking at my 2003 F250 and noticed that the ford plug is removable from the wiring on the truck. I also noticed that the plug is held on the bracket by 4 screws. My question is how is the 2008 set up? would it be hard to relocate the 7 pin harness from under the bumper to inside the bed. I do realize that a hole will be to be drilled. But I also noticed that from the looks of it in the brochure that the 7 pin and 4 pin harness share the same hinge for the cover. Could someone take pictures of their trailer plugs?
You can also buy an Y adapter. You just unplug the wiring harness from the back of the plug on the truck and insert the adapter that has a cable you can run up to the bed and it includes a plug. This allows you to maintain the plug on the back and have one in the bed. This is what I did. The picyutre doesn't really do it justice. There is nothing to do except drill the holes (one for the plug and 4 for the srews to hold it) and plug it in. http://www.tweetys.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=13527
that works to, simple yet functional. isn't there enough of the ford wiring to move it to the bed, or is it wired in with the 4 pin? I know I i will find out when my truck comes in, but I can't wait and am planning a list already. How do you feel about pinstriping?
I'm not to much for extra stuff like pinstriping (if I could have I would have deleted the two-tone on my King Ranch and if you look at my gallery you will see what I think of badging), but if it is done well it can look good. I will look under the back of my truck when I get home and see what the factory harness looks like. Its been a 5-6 weeks since I hooked mine up. Off the top of my head though I think it would be hard to get the slack needed to move it.
Just checked my truck. The wiring harness and plug on the back are all integrated together with the 4pin and the rest of the lights as well. there is no easy way to move the 7 pin into the bed even if you take the 4 pin with it.
The Y adapter will work. I have it installed in my truck. What I was stating is that moving the factory plug will not work as there is less than a foot of cable from the harness to the back of the plug.
So I went to the RV store today and asked what they had for 7 pin wiring harnesses to relocate it into the bed. They didn't have anything like the Y CONNECTOR that is mentioned in this forum. But what the did have was a harness that plugs into the existing plug socket and basicly adds an extension to it with a mountable 7 pin socket on the other end. It cost $49, I think I'll just order the one 66stang351 got. I think it will look much cleaner and have a more factory look to it.

Yeah, I like it a lot and you can't even tell it is there. The hardest part of installing it is getting up the nerve to drill a 2 inch hole in your brand new truck. Of course for me it wasn't that bad....I had just got done drilling the 4 inch hole for my B&W hitch.
How long is the adaptor cable? Do you mind sharing where you drilled the hole to install the plug? I'm trying to decide where I should put the plug for both 5th wheel and Camper connections... Last truck it was right in front of the driver's wheel well about a foot up from the bed. Still kind of a stretch for the 5ver.
