My check engine came on this morning. Went to Auto Zone and got a free diagnostic check. The code is P0442, called Ford-small emission leak. It will be $67.00 for Ford to do a smoke test and they wont gaurantee that they'll even find it. They also told me the gas cap could be on wrong?. When I got home I took the gas cap off then put it right back on. Is it worth getting the smoke test? Is it possible the light will go out in a couple of driving cycles?
First things first. Disconnect your battery for 15 minutes or so to reset the PCM. This might "fix" your concern, especially if your gas cap is the culprit.
Buzzard, Is there a Sequoia version like this FTE site? Post Expy I might look at those and would rather research the good and bad before rather than after the fact.
Other wise you will have to go thru about 4 tanks of gas for it to turn off by it's self. (if the gas cap is indeed the problem) make sure who ever puts in on tight after each fill-up. So try the battery, other wise if you dont want to do that see if it turns it's self off after 3-4 tanks of gas. Odds are it is an emmisions problem, nothing to bad.
I disconnected the battery and the check engine light went out, did this yesterday pm and so far so good. The expy even seems to be running smoother now...Is that possible? Thanks for the suggestions!!
