I have a 1998 Expedition 4.6. The idle drops from 800rpm to 500 rpm while in park or sitting at a stop light. I am aware of the rpms dropping when the a/c compressor kicks on and it still happens even when the heat is on panel only or floor only. The check engine light doesnt come on so Ford doesnt have a clue. Also the idle never drops when I take it to the dealership, this is very frustrating. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
wow your on the same boat im on. im going to the dealer tommorow to have them check it out. i have the same problem my rpms dip to 600 at a stop and i feel less power now because of that. have you done any mods to your expy??
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 23-Feb-02 AT 07:35 AM (EST)]Sadly enough, I cant afford any mods right now. That's why I cant understand why I'm having this problem. Ford asked me why I'm so concerned about this problem because the vehicle never stalls, although sometimes it feels that way. My problem is is that something is causing the idle to dip and the computer has to correct it. After your idle dips does the computer correct it? Let me know if you have any luck at the dealership...
I postponed my trip to the dealer til sometime next week. see this is what happens to me i pull into a stop and my rpms will dip as low as 400 rpm. then the correction comes in but brings it up to only 600, it should be at around 750. plus off the line theres less power, actually i feel less power through out the whole powerband. I hope this isnt something major. i hope ford doesnt charge me just for looking at my truck. btw my car has only stalled twice coming into a stop. im guess its either a Mass air flow sensor. or a throttle body that has gone bad. the only mods ive done are a K&N filter thats just the element not the whole arm. and a flowmaster muffler which was a direct replacement of the stock muffler. my car should be breathing better not worse.
You would think that Ford would have come up with a solution on this by now. I love my Expedition, but this idle problem is driving me insane. I'm looking forward to hearing how you make out on yours!!!
How on earth did they know it was the air management controller? Is that considered a sensor? I will be asking my dealership about this part!!!! Thanks
I have an appointment this monday, A ford expert is going to look at my idle problem, was that part they replaced definatley called the air management controller?
Well, the Ford Expert looked at my idle problem today and couldnt get it to duplicate the problem that I'm having. On my way home after work today, I was sitting idle at a stop light and of course it happened again. I give up....
