This may be a stupid question but I'm just wondering if anyone has been able to replace the cam in a 302 while the engine is still in the truck?
would it be pretty much just removing the radiator and core support?

You shouldn't need to pull the core support. Pulling the core support is much more work than pulling the engine anyway. It's a pretty big PITA to do a cam with the engine in the truck but it's doable.
Ok awesome, I wasn't sure if there was enough room to finagle it out of there. Seems like it'll be a pain but I think that's the way I'll go, I really don't want to pull this engine until my other 302 is finished being built and that will be a pretty good while.
Thank y'all guys for your help!! I am kind of thinking about changing my mind on doing it in the truck, I was givin a running 86 50ho by a buddy and I was originally planning on stroking that to 331 with aluminum heads and was going to put the new cam in the engine that's in the truck now until I get that motor built.
I am now thinking about changing my mind on that engine build and just putting a set of forged Pistons in it that have valve reliefs cut, getting a cheap set of gt40 heads and working them over a little bit and then put that cam in the built engine and swapping it all out at one time. It just makes sense to save myself some work.
I decided to go against my better judgment and go ahead and install the cam in the engine that's in the truck, my gosh it's a pain in the a**. I'm a week into it and I have got the new cam in, timing set put on, lifters/pushrods/rocker arms back in and torqued to specs, now to get everything else put back together.
