preventative maintenance

well I just got caught with my pants down!
i had to change my fuel pump as my leak went from dripping to my mileage had dropped 2 mpg. went with a precision from oreillys as my local dealer didn't have one in stock and didn't have time to wait for shipping from riffraff.
finished the install drove it 10 miles parked it in the shop to check for leaks, 4 drops of oil on floor!!! found oil rail o ring by turbo leaking, changed it sent my son on a drive parked it in shop and let it run for 10 minutes came back and 1/4 tank of diesel on the floor. found flex line to passenger head cracked and dumping fuel, changed with line from my spare motor and ordered new lines from riffraff.

a couple months ago i blew my high pressure power steering hose, I have changed 5 of them in the last couple months.
I have also changed several high pressure oil lines recently.
so in short our trucks are getting old and this rubber stuff is starting to fail.
as for the power steering hoses I am now changing mine every 100,000 miles on all my trucks

Perhaps I am mistaken but I think that was a hard line stock.
The hard lines could rub and would cause a leak, me thinks somebody replaced your hard line with a flex line which may or may not have been made from the correct material for the environment it was put into.

Steering hose, let me guess, the nylon O ring failed ?
My first truck failed one when it was 6 months old. My current Excursion
Failed one at 200k. They both have 37" tires and both failed in a parking lot while trying to turn the tires when the vehicle was stopped.

oops didn't realize I was in the 99 - 03 forum, that hose is on my 97 not my 99 or excursion,
all the power steering lines have blown the swivel fitting at the pump.

No worries. You wanna keep it here or you want it moved to the earlier PSD forum?

It would be nice to see a new improved PS line!

We have been rebuilding our truck and I feel like we have replaced everything outside the motor..... Certainly these trucks fall apart!

On mine the LH one blew going down the highway.
I smelled the fuel pretty quick. Lol
I had two made at orielly. (To change the RH when it blows. Wouldn't you know it, still going strong. Lol) Only thing is, the hose crimps are bulky.
Going to redo both eventually.

I had the same PS line blow also. On mine it blew the line out of the nut on the pump.
