I have found a replacement return line for my truck(75 4x4) at LMC. Looks like it is the same as what is on it now, basically a section of hose with a couple of clamps on it.
Has anyone found some place to buy a complete hose from the Bendix valve to the pump that does not include clamps? Seems like this will just start leaking again eventually.
I know what you're saying about the clamps eventually leaking but it dosnt happen untill the rubber gets so old and hard that it wont seal around the metal tubes, probably 20-30 years.
I had the same persistant leak on the return line and thought i could just cut off the end and reclamp it but even with multiple clamps it would leak.
The fix was a new piece of rubber hose, real simple.
There's much less pressure on the return hose than on the pressure side, so a clamp will hold fine. If you still want a 'stock' type hose, you might try NAPA. I've had good luck in getting (cough) Jeep hoses from them.
This is what NAPA thinks I need. This differs quite a bit from what LMC says I need. Neither look like what is on the truck now! I know that I have the correct information for the searches, but it is pot-luck as to what modifications have been done to this truck in the last 30 years.
I suppose that I should just buy some bulk hose and clamp it.
Highboy, the return hose on my 78 Bronco looks like the NAPA picture.
The picture in my LMC catalog is a generic hose that looks nothing like mine either.....?
The stock return hose has a metal line in the middle, to enable it to make the twists and turns so as to fit between the frame rail and the PS unit without kinking.
Go to a local hydraulics shop or forklift repair facility. You may be able to get one that matches the one you need. I used the NAPA hoses and they were good to go.
