Question Cold start issues.... HELP

Hello,
We have a 2005 f250 6.0 and we started to have some issues with it. A couple of weeks ago we were out of town and it was raining real bad, and the truck started to run really bad, and was blowing black smoke, and felt like it was missing, and lose of power, We got home checked a couple of forums and they advised to check the the ERG, might be dirty, so we checked it and it was really dirty, cleaned it up and it ran fine for about a week, went out of town to the coast near the sea, and it also started to run bad there, so we decided ro change the Erg out for a new one, but this did not correct the problem. And I realized that once the motor was hot and running for a while it ran fine without any issues. Spoke to my cousin and he advised me to change the fuel filters and add an additve to the tank to help out if any water in the tank, because the filters might be dirty and have some moisture, did all of this to no change still the same, and runs fine when warmed up. Even took it to be scanned and no codes. Took it out of town this weekend and it did the same, this morning was worse, would barley start, with several tries it turned over, and the same issue runs hard for a while but once warm it runs fine. The missing starts around 1200 rpms. Can anyone tell me what it could be, we are baffled...

You really need some additional diagnostics. An injector contribution graph from IDS or the like will help to determine if an injector issue.
You will get the injector "romps" when cold starting many times but will clear up after a few minutes. Doesn't sound like your issue with the amount of black smoke.
Other issues could be injector fuel pressure, do you have a Blue Spring installed?
No surprise the egr valve did nothing here.
Maybe low oil pressure too. Try disconnecting the ICP plug and start. It will help determine what the IPR is saying.
Get diagnostics first before testing more replacement product.

EBP plugged, sensor bad, wire chafing @ EBP -- another rough start/black smoke causer...

If it seems to run a little better engine warm / hot then monitor your FICM , do this when engine is stone cold anything below 45v is not good, also how's your charging system ? Alternator , both battery's bought in pairs?

+1.

This sounds like a stereotypical FICM issue. I'd suggest doing a quick test on it. Here's how:

17. Can I test my FICM to ensure that it is the culprit?

+2 on the FICM. Same exact symptoms I had. I ordered a rebuilt from Dieseltech Ron. Boy, I sure miss knowing that he's tinkering on a motor somewhere, dreaming up a new video for us.

Check the FICM voltage when it's cold.

Ok everyone so today we checked the FICM on a cold start and it read 48.2 and then we turned it on and let it run for a couple of seconds and then it ran at 25 and highest 32, so apparently we have a bad FICM.... are we wrong or could it be something else.

HelloSir,
We were going to replace out FICM today but we were told that we had to reprogram the new one. What is that, and how is it done? We are lost again!!!!
