No, don't go to Texas.. doesn't have California emissions. You're stuck with Washington, Oregon, and California. I looked into that, not worth the hassle!
You MUST be sure it has California emissions otherwise it's a no-go at the DMV.
The week before Veterans Day I was quoted $9000 off of a regular cab with a msrp of $33,600. Percentage wise, that is 26.7%. This was the local San Diego dealer. It sounds like I might need to fly to Texas to get the really big discount! Jag
IMHO...that is a really big discount. If you are concerned, then you can always ask to see dealer invoice. But seems like you are well below invoice pricing with $9000 off.
I didn't realize they made trucks differently for ca. But, why not? We pay thru the nose for special gasoline too! the Ford dealership in Vista was running sales on $37K XLT F-150s for $15k off in July. But, it may have been a ploy because each week there was "only one at this price." I'm not in a hurry, so I will probably keep watching the websites for deals and availibity. It seams like Ford has a lot of 2016s left over. Jag
All the F150s sold here in Texas have 50 state emissions. If you're unsure about a certain truck, check the window sticker.
How much do you really save by traveling though? Plane ticket at least 2 overnight stays, restaurants, gas on the way back not to mention you're time. I'd take the good deal in CA.
And those dealers advertising $15K off usually put every possible discount available, some of which many don't qualify for. Spend you're money at home and keep you're local people working. Just my opinion. I know some people will fly across the county to "save" $500.

Old news, old rules. All new vehicles these days can be sold in all 50 states.
Absolutely NOT. I looked under the hood, it did NOT have the sticker mandated by California.
And why is it an option on my truck for the 5.0L V8? It's a no-charge option but if it's not in the list, you cannot register it. I tried to do that last year with one from Nevada!
This came from another forum and it was for a Mustang.
I was a California resident that time and the DMV looked for a sticker that said it was compliant with California emissions. They wouldn't register it until I had some proof. Maybe all are 50-state cars, but my current 2016 has "California emissions system" on the sticker.
Just confirmed the 2015 Ford F150 in Nevada does have "CALIFORNIA EMISSIONS SYSTEM NOT REQUIRED" on the options list and it was originally from Alabama. I offered to have it smog checked but the DMV was absolutely adamant. It just had to have the sticker even if if was the same. I live here, I've tried to register out of state cars. It's a real pain. If I wasn't a resident of California, I am given an exemption.
