So the 04 is rolling down the road when the cluster gauges ping, the truck loses power/acceleration but the radio never goes out. Have a new alternator and batteries passed a check. Any ideas. It has done it three times. We are 1100 miles from home. OBD and cigarette lighter fuse was blown as well. Appreciate any help.
I had a similar issue on a friends car the other day. Turned out to be pretty easy. A small metal ring from one of his phone charger plugs had came off inside the the lighter plug socket. It would sometimes short power to ground inside the plug and blow the fuse. It looked like it was supposed to be in there if you just glanced in the socket.
Get out a vom and get real data on the alternator charge. New alternators fail too as we've seen posted here and personally also.
14.4-6 volts at rear alternator terminal, 13.8-14.2 at batteries.
Rusty has a good thought but when those door chimes start to ding...usually a voltage issue.
Didn't quite remember to check the check list before we left so scan gauge is home. The alternator isn't new out of a box. I had it built to my specs and I have 10000 miles on it. No door chimes, going off radio keeps playing when it powers down.
So we made it home from Wisconsin to NJ and the truck only lost accelerator pedal twice. The water in fuel light pops on when it does this but after a second or two the fuel pedal becomes responsive again. Check engine light is for P0299 and I am unable to clear it. There are codes for PID00 PID01 etc.
If memory serves me right that code is EGR , try cleaning it up , just don't get cleaner in the electrical ports, I'll have to look up the other two DTCs , glad you made it home
