If it has a new part number, something about it is different than the previous version(s) - likely to accommodate more-recent designs - but it may very well be usable in your application.

This site seems to say basically the same thing:

Do all the measuring & inspecting of your existing and see if the new one "might work."

I have that same site brought up in another tab, they make them by order so to get it is atleast 2 weeks out.
