Factory AC condenser
Looked for new condenser and ran into troubles. Most places sell the spectra 7-4150 as a direct replacement. Company sez that 7-4150 will replace every condenser in every Ford pickup made from 1980 to the mid-90s. It does not even come close to fitting my '81 truck. I wasn't about to hack-up my truck to make it fit
Was lucky enough to find the correct NOS OE condenser tho. While in the process of the search, I had my old condenser pressure tested w/Nitrogen at 200psi, overnight and then in a water vat...still good after all these years! So, I have a spare to put in my will (NOS unit).
New compressor/accumulator/evaporator(waiting on it) and should be back to cold air by the weekend. Using R12.
Had fit problem with a spectra radiator for the truck earlier this year too, but did some mods to get it to fit. Not a big fan of that brand.

Can you take a picture of the 2 to show what is different?
Who did you get the"wrong" one from and where did you find the right one?
I ask becasue I will need to replace mine (81 F100 factory AC) as the PO put a hole in it.
Also may want to flush out your old one before you store it away as I heard of them flaking the inside of the tubes.

Believe me, any place you look is gonna sell you the 7-4150. You need to find one that is E1TZ or E0TZ. That 7-4150 is using the E7TZ to replace all.
There is more difference than the 6" too long. I've got some photos and once I figure out how to post them, I will do that......(always a pita for me).
Local Ford store found a few of them in Kansas and a couple in Louisiana.
I hear if using R134 you want to run a larger condenser but if the tubs are in different locations that could be a deal breaker.
It will be sometime before I need the condenser, like get the rest of the truck together, but now I know what I maybe have to deal with.
Thanks

Maybe the changeover to 134 is the stamped steel front modification line.
I'd go one year earlier than that. I don't know when Ford made the
change to 134. My truck was made in the 79000-80000 production time line.
If you intend to change to 134, using the OE parallel condenser would work fine. Just start with 60% of the original R12 charge and, if needed, add a little at a time to get where you want it to be. Oil, whether Mineral/PAG/POE is the same amount into compressor/accumulator depending which gas you use. The original system was very large for such a small cabin area to 'condition'. No significant difference in cooling effect using the 134. Even that stuff is on its way out. New refrigerant is 1234y I think.
My OE evaporator lasted until '96. Bought a new unit from AZ w/Life Time Warranty. AZ has been dicking me around on getting me a new one under the warranty. Latest date from them now is 6 July. 54527 is that number and as far as I've looked, all are made by 4 Seasons under different labels (Murray/Everco/etc).
Had bit of a problem finding one of the vacuum motors for the control rebuild, but finally found a new one. Got rid of all those plastic lines/connectors/splices. All new rubber lines. Works like new again.

I also had a problem using some Four Seasons parts on a 1993 Taurus SHO that were alleged to fit... one of the lines between the evaporator in the cabin and the accumulator/condenser under the hood, the FS version wasn't bent closely enough to allow it to be sandwhiched in between the exhaust manifold and the firewall:

Youz takes yer chances with aftermarket stuff sometimes....
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
I was told my system held psi till they pulled the compressor to pull the motor, and why the hole in the condenser, so thinking the evap is good.
I will be replacing the dryer and orifice valve also.
I don't have any of the plastic lines for control, sold when the PO sold the control panel, so I will have to run all new rubber hose.
I will be testing all the motors and replacing the hose to make sure they are good before I install the dash back in the truck.
Again this is all down the road when the time comes but is nice to have some clue what needs to be done.
Thanks

Believe me, any place you look is gonna sell you the 7-4150. You need to find one that is E1TZ
(no such part number) or EOTZ-19712-A That 7-4150 is using the E7TZ-19712-A (FoMoCo replacement) to replace EOTZ-19712-A

No Ford dealer or obsolete parts vendor has EOTZ-19712-A
No Ford dealer or obsolete parts vendor has E3TZ-19712-C
