Drier/Receiver

Looking for the correct AC Filter Drier for a 1978 F150 2wd 460 with Factory AC. My original Ford Part # D2TA-19959-AB. I TRIED LMC, NO LUCK they sent some aftermarket item that was too long and the fitting on one end was incorrect. NPD only has the drier with fittings on the same end. (Mine has fitting on opposite ends 1 male/1 female) Tried Dennis Carpenter and Green Auto Sales. NO LUCK. Has anyone had this issue before. Looking for direction.

Here's what the Ford parts catalog calls for (The number you posted sounds like an engineering number, not a part number).
D2TZ-195959-B Dehydrator and tank assy.
Fits '78 F100-350 w/ integral ac, tube at top and bottom
Motorcraft YL-30
I couldn't locate any dealers that had an oem or motorcraft in stock.

Have you tried Autozone. I just did a quick search with the parameters of your truck (except there was no option for a 460) anyway they have one they can order it looks like. It has a male fitting on one end and a female on the other. The part number is 33366. Maybe that will help.

I recently bought a replacement at Advance. It bolted right up. to the condenser and the radiator support like the original did.

Marked with ID number: D2TA-19959-AB = Ford part number: D2TZ-19959-B

Mike, did you search for the part number you typo'd?

I'm going to assume you did, because except for Kinsel, the following D2TZ-19959-B's are listed on PV.

NOS PARTS SOURCE in Olathe KS has ONE = 913-220-5746.

PARTS INTERNATIONAL in Farmers Branch TX has TWO = 888-727-0418.

KINSEL L/M in Beaumont TX has TWO = 800-816-2894.

HIGH BUCK!! BOB ALLEN FORD in Overland Park KS has TWO = 800-676-0675.

Allen is a snake, wants mega-bucks for obsolete parts.

Does your truck have factory A/C or dealer installed A/C?

1973/79 F100/350: There are three different dryers used with factory A/C (D2TZ-19959-A .. D2TZ-19959-B .. D4TZ-19959-A). Depends on the serial number, style of the dryer, and...

There are two different dryers (C7AZ-19959-B .. D6AZ-19959-A) used with dealer installed A/C. Depends where they mount, which dealer A/C is installed.

Note: 1973/79 F100/350 (1978/79 Bronco): There are three different types of A/C.

1) Factory installed Integral A/C: The A/C is combined with the heater. The A/C controls are in the same panel as the heater controls.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2) Deluxe dealer installed A/C: The A/C is combined with the heater. The A/C controls (2 switches) are located in the bezel.

The HUGE dash bezel sweeps across the entire right side of the dash, covers up the glove box. There is a separate 'hang-on' glove box bolted to the bottom of the dash.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3) Economy dealer installed A/C: Not combined with the heater. The A/C controls (2 switches) are located in a panel that also contains 2 registers.

This panel fits into the dash to the left of the extant glove box.

You quoted my post before I finished editing it. I had to edit it...because when I looked up the dryers, I was amazed to find FIVE different types!

Which Factory A/C dryer have you pictured? There are three: D2TZ-19959-A .. D2TZ-19959-B .. D4TZ-19959-A

There are two more with dealer A/C.

Which factory number? I have no idea. I didn't even think of the integral/dealer/add-on A/C differences. When I removed my condenser and dryer, I broke a fitting on the condenser, and the drier had been open for YEARS (non functional A/C) and I wanted to get it going again.

I looked at mine, looked at the one Advance showed, and saw they were the same. It's currently in my truck. My truck has factory integral a/c.

Rockauto shows a few for the truck, and has pics of them as well. The only reason I went with Advance was with some online deals I purchased the condenser and drier and saved $40 after all was said and done.

I see you have a floppy eared dog in your ashtray. I have four floppy eared real dogs, but Basset Hounds don't fit into ashtrays!

There is a story about that stuffed dog, named Ranger. Short version: Dog was part of donated bundle of stuff animals from a store my mother managed back in '99. Dog fell out of bag and wasn't realized until she got home. She put dog in ash tray. Dad sold truck in '02. Kept dog. Dog lived in his '03 F350 and 04 F250.. but didn't really fit once my father added XM. I bought truck back from the 'new owner' in 2006.

Dog hopped happily back to his new/old home, lol.

The part number I listed from Autozone was a different style than the one psquare has a picture of. The original poster said his had fittings on each end one male one female. Which is what part # 33366 looks like. I didn't know til I searched that there were different driers for factory AC, because mine looked like the one psquare posted also.

1973/79 F100/350 Dryers with factory installed Integral A/C:

D2TZ-19959-A = 1973 F100/350 before serial number S20,001 (no parts catalog description).

D4TZ-19959-A = 1973 F100/350 from serial number S20,001 / 1974/79 F100/350 -Tubes attach to bottom.

D2TZ-19959-B = 1978 F100/350 (only) - Tubes at top & bottom.

FYI: Post #5 has the sources for the 7 NOS dryers that match your truck. I forgot to add the post # to the email I sent you.

Since you found one, the info is now moot.

I just put the same unit in my truck. Remarkably, it was only 19.00 retail. I bought it at Autozone, by far the cheapest price for the receiver/drier unit. It was more than 4 times that much from other sources. They sold that part to me for less than the refrigeration company I work for could buy it from our wholesale automotive refrigeration supplier here in Phoenix. Same exact part, different labels on it. Man I love Autozone because of this sort of thing. The other thing great about them is that you can use specialty tools to install parts for FREE!!! I am in no way affiliated, I am just a happy customer. Other parts may be way more expensive there. Point I am making is that you should always remember to check the situation out at Autozone for somewhat rare/expensive parts, they might just have them on the cheap. Another good supplier is PartsTrain for parts like A/C compressors.
