Ride Quality
Truck is a 2000 F250, Supercab, long bed, 7.3, 4x4, towing package. Previous owner added airbags in the back. Have the airbags set to 5 psi (min. pressure) but its still riding pretty rough. Its just taking bumps really badly and on the freeways out here is just hopping (they all have waves out here). I am thinking possibly different shocks and disconnecting/removing both the front and rear sway bars. (I understand the truck will handle much work but lets be real, you aren't going to be carving up and mountain roads in this thing haha). Pretty sure the shocks are fine (only have like 4000 miles on them since I was home and none of them are covered in oil and look blown), but I am going to pull them off and inspect them much more closely when I get a moment.
Any suggestions on the shocks? I live in an apartment now, don't have much need for heavy duty towing shocks, just trying to make it ride decent.
Any reason why removing the sway bars would be a horrible idea?
Any other ideas? I'm open to suggestions!
Side note: I recently have developed some steering play. I am thinking that it is probably the tie rod ends/joints. What is the best replacement (Or upgrade?) for this?
Thanks guys!
There are several shock threads in the Super Duty section.
Leave the sway bars on it. Removing them will adversely affect handling and will not improve ride quality.
What you have is a real work truck designed to carry and tow serious weight. It is not designed for fuel economy or ride quality. If your current shocks are of good quality and still fresh, the next thing to do to achieve a little softer ride is to air down the tires when you aren't towing or hauling heavy. The door sticker will say 80 rear and probably 65-80 front. I run 50 all around in my Super Duty if it is not hauling.
In the mean time you could put about 800lbs in the bed...that should help soften up the ride a bit and help the air bags. You may have to adjust the pressure a bit but not too much
