Switching gear prices?

What's the going price for switching gears in a Dana 60 front end? Found a Dana 60 but it has 3.54 gears and I need 4.10s. Does the Dana 44 and 60 use the same ring gear and pinion? I have a 4.10 set from a 44.

I can't give a for sure on the price but I BELIEVE you'd be looking at about 400 for the gears, but you CAN NOT use the gears from the D44 as its a different carrier

The Dana 44 uses a 8.5" ring gear, and the Dana 60 uses a 9.75" ring gear so no swapping between the two.

$165.00 Add $ for shipping. They're in Ames, Iowa. Best price I've found. Pretty much anything Dana front/rear, 30/35 spline, 3:54~5:38, brgs', seals, rebuild kits, etc. Just bring $$

I'd estimate $400 all said and done. Maybe less but I doubt more.

Ok thanks guys. I see the 60 and 44 do use a different set. I have the chance to buy a Dana 60 front but buy the time I switch gears and refurbish I think it might be a little steep on price.

It'll be more than that to have done at a shop, I can guarantee that. 4-6hrs labor if everything comes apart nicely, gears, install kit, and gear oil.
However, unless you need the 4x4, you can swap the axle in and then change the gears later. It's not turning all the time, and a D60 is a worthwhile upgrade. If you can get the axle for less than $600 you're doing well.

I paid $400 for a gear swap from a D44 into an HD 44 swapped for the same reason for gearing.
But no axle in mine & cover was off plus they install my new baring ring & pinon and setup the lash.

Guy wants $1000 for the axle. By the time I do a gear swap and refurbish brakes, seals, bearings etc I'm looking at over $2000! May be able to end up with a low pinion 44 for less. Have one located that would be ready to run.

If your into heavy duty tall tire mud trucking or rock crawling with tall tires and a HD44 won't hole up then go for a D60.

I'm not a climber or a mudder. This is just a daily driver that I use like a truck. Dana 44 would last me forever. The Dana 60 has a cool factor but then again so do the big spicer lockouts on a Dana 44 low pinion in a bump.

I don't live in the desert any more so not much off roading for me since living in the city.
I did get on the beach when, I had the c/o camper on it. But about 5 yrs ago when gas was so high $5.50 for the cheap 87 octane. I then sold the camper. As, I could not afford the rate of 10 miles=for $5.50 to even go on a vacation any longer.

Cheaper then to go some place an stay in a nice hotal then.

I only switched to the HD44 76 disc brake low pinon axle for the ease of replacement parts. I spend about $1100-1200 to completely rebuilding it though.

The only used parts were the old swapped Ring & Pinon gears.
Put in a lock-Right locker setup in it also that, I have not tired out as of yet.
But it has to be a great improvement front having none before up front before..

Your usage is about like mine buy I only drive a couple times a week tho.
