Highboy diff gear options

I want to get rid of the 4.11's that are currently in my 76 F250. The truck is a daily driver, and it see's a lot of city and highway use.. not a lot of stump pulling!

the rear diff is the full floating Dana 60, the front is a 44. I wonder what options I have... I'm thinking 3.73's are the way to go... do i have to get ones specific for the 44, where it has the drop carrier ??

are the gears compatible if i get them from a Dodge??

any insight is appreciated..

I believe Dana 44 is Dana 44 whether it's a chebbie or a dudge. As long as the replacement isn't reverse cut.

The available ratios for the Dana 60 are: 3.54, 3.73, 4.11, 4.27, 4.56, 4.88, 5.13, 5.38, 5.86, 6.17, 7.17

The ratios available for the 44 are: 3.08, 3.31, 3.54, 3.73, 3.90, 4.11, 4.27, 4.56, 4.88, 5.13, 5.38, 5.86

It looks like you could get 3.73 or 3.54 if you want a taller gear. Hope this helps.

much appreciated, the 3.54 was the one i was curious about... was hoping to find something a little taller than 3.73..

do you think a 351m with a np435 4 speed will push my 5500 lb f250 4x4 around ok?? this truck sees more road use than anything, and i'll occasionally haul some lumber around..

i figure the low first will still prove more than adequate to get me rolling, even with 3.54's...

thank you for your insight

I had the 3.54's in my 76 with a stock 360 and it was perfectly capable of anything I needed it to do. I even lifted it and put 35's on it and I thought it still did fine.

If you have stock sized tires then 3.54 will be fine and should help the MPG's a lot.

much appreciated, will look into it. Yes on the stock tires, i'm running 16 x 7.5 workhorse radials in the winters, and some LT245/60R16's are on the way this week..

i need the most economy i can get out of this thing, and am fussy about efficiency in general..

some tell me that these 351M's run best with a little spark knock, but I'm going to start fiddling with the vacuum advance to lessen the number of degrees it advances the timing in operation... i dont mind a little spark knock, but it's rather moderate under 1/2 throttle conditions.. initial timing is 8 btdc, with a blue plug wells module and motorcraft plugs. Stock motorcraft 2v. 160f high flow thermostat..

forgive me for venturing off topic... i love to tinker to get the best balance of performance and economy

thanks for your help!
