I would also keep a close eye on your oil and trans pans and diff covers. I have heard of them rusting out, leaking, and ruining expensive things. But in reality you may want to buy a replacement shaft from a junkyard and sell that thing. It will never recover fully from its illness without a boatload of cash. Terminal cancer.
well i'll make sure i get the truck to the clinic asap, with all these different cancers and STD's i think it needs some help lol.
I had a local welder come out and go over the truck. I am having it in the shop next week to go fully over. Either way i'll need to get the driveshaft for it so what recommendations or site should i look at. I know i am about to drop some money into it so id rather do it from the bottom up. I also want to make sure whatever shaft i get will work with the 5 inch lift.
I haven't had it long at all. the truck will need "many a thousands" and i was fully aware when purchasing which was all factored into the price. I might next week just throw a used shaft in it and send it on its way, but till then i'll plan on fixing. Interiors great, engines great, low miles so maybe i'll end up parting out those pieces and scrap the rest.
Thanks for the help so far though and hopefully this ends up being fixed instead of lost.
I don't know how much you have invested in this truck but I personally wouldn't put a lift on that thing or spend much more money other than getting a junk yard drive shaft.
The lift will probably put stress on other components that are in similar condition as your driveshaft and end up breaking more stuff.
From what I can see that truck has VERY limited life left in it and fixing properly it will basically involve something along the lines of a frame off restoration...not worth it.
As limited as these trucks are there's still plenty of them on the roads in MUCH better shape than yours and your money will be better spent on something with less rust.
Now having said that, I also own a rusty EX and I plan on squeezing every last drop of enjoyment out of it before it gets parted out or whatever will become of it.
Very solid advice and good chance will be the end result. i'll drive it till she stops and then save the good pieces for the next one. Engine and interior are in excellent shape
If you could do the cancer treatments yourself, it could turn into the Ex that you had plans for. Keep in mind, that it looks like everything needs to replaced.
I ended up ordering one from ford. I gave them the vin and just went with it. Once in the air i'll start literally piece by piece. Once it is i'll be sure to post some pics and let you guys know whats going on. Thanks so far for the advice.

I don't know how much ford gets for a new one but I know Rockauto sells new ones for about $300
I had mentioned having yours retubed and that is usually a $100 or so.
Keep us posted. I'm curious about what caused this.
