Run a flex 20ga shotgun bore cleaner down the tube. The gauze not the brass brush(yet). Or use mechanical fingers with gauze. See what you come up with. Ive see this as well. The dipstick is the highest point and will accumulate moisture which will rust the inside of the tube. Seen this on the engine side too.
If you find that this is the case then run the brass brush down it...with the pan off. Followed with brake cleaner then oil it down with trans fluid. Why not pull the pan and see whats in there. A flush and fluid change is a whole lot cheaper than a trans rebuild. Trans fluid and filter should be serviced every 30-60K IMO... I dont care what your driving. Checking your fluids monthly will wick up enough trans fluid to prevent this.
Thank you for all of the feedback and advice. I ended up changing the filter. The fluid was beautiful and the pan was spotless. There was very little debris on the filter. The magnet was almost bare. It was the cleanest tranny I've ever seen. I flushed the fill tube, which was full of debris, until it ran clear.
It was a friend's motor home. They purchased it less than a year ago. When they did, supposedly the dealer changed out the fluids. They had also taken it to a Ford dealer for an inspection. No one said anything about the stuff on the stick. I noticed it after I replaced their rusted and busted radiator hose clamps, which was causing them to lose a lot of coolant. I am really surprised that the ford place didn't notice either issue.
