It got done today. Kenwood 6903S, Kenwood 450-4 amp into the stock speakers. Cerwin Vega 500-1 into a Kicker CompVR 1x12 box in the back. I had the Vega amp and a JL 2 ch amp(along with the Kicker spkr), but the Exc has 6 speakers, so we did a deal for a used 450-4 so as to amplify all of the in doors. We tried to go with the radio amp up front , but it had no chance competing with the JL.
I used to be somewhat of an audio enthusiast and tried many different combos of speakers in the Ex, never did find a 6 speaker setup I liked, went to a 4 speaker setup and it was better.
Now I just a have a set of very high end separates up front and a big sub.
So far it has been my favorite setup by far. ( i would run rear speakers if I carried passangers more often but I don't )
I might just suck at balancing and blending but the length and volume of the Ex made it difficult for me to dial in a sound I liked. Sounded horrible with the sound coming out of the cave.
I had the chance to hear it with just 4 but when we amped the front 2 it came alive. We had the woofer turned down just to hear how(I assume they're still stock like the radio)they sounded.... great but with not enough bass. We turned up the Vega to about 11:00 and it was perfect for "Still Got The Blues". We were messing around with HD radio and Stairway came on. I'm a happy man!! I have the woofer set for classic rock type tones. I'm not really into subs for music.
My 4x2 is for daily driving(not that much, I'm retired), and towing a Travel trailer. It is perfect for this task, and there isn't a whole lot to add to the pkg you get from Ford.
My 4x4 is for daily driving, and towing a travel trailer. It is perfect for this task, and there isn't a whole lot to add to the pkg you get from Ford.
