Removing Ball Joints?

I got everything off including lower joint nut and snap ring and castle nut for the upper joint. I'm just not sure how to get these off the knuckle. I figure that I should just pound on the top bolt, but I wanted to make sure. I have no idea about the bottom. Any help would be appreicated. Thanks.

Removing Ball Joints?

I just replaced mine. I knocked the bottom one out then ended up taking it to a front end shop to have the rest knocked out and pressed back in. They charged me 40. I asked them how they did it and they said they beat the old ones out with an air chisel and then used a c clamp press to press the new ones back in.

Beating on them won't work too well and likley will cause harm to your I-beams. They sell a "ball joint remover" kit. It looks like a super duty C-clamp with a variety of adapters. The cheapest version I've found was about $90. Snap On's price is about double that. I'm pretty wary of cheapo tools but don't care to spend $200 on a tool I may never use a second time.
If you can find somebody to remove and replace them for you for about $40, consider it money well spent.
On my 82, I needed new front springs and radius arm bushings so I just pulled both I beams and took them to a shop. They were happy to have an I beam in hand rather than having to work under the truck. Hence a reasonable price.

How did you get the knuckle off with the ball joints in it? I'll probably take it to a shop, but I need to get the knuckle off. Thanks.

How about a pickle fork (AKA ball joint seperator)?
Avail at Napa for $60 (I think, can't remember exactly)

I went to Auto Zone. They loneout tools that you don't need all the time. I bought the upper and lowers from them . I think it took 4 hours.

Removing Ball Joints?

Just did my ball joints last week. Auto Zone does loan tools out, with a $100 deposit, in case you strip the threads on the clamp. HTH
