Does the 6oh really love fresh air that much?

I recently did the 2011 front end conversion and took it for a shake test to see how everything would react. I took the flap off that's by the stock intake and now there's nothing blocking the air, so I know that a ton of air is coming in and I have a ram air hood. Took it for 20 mile drive and check everything, then I decided to jump on the highway to find out if I had everything bolted down tight. Granted, I'm totally stock besides the blue spring, but I was easily able to bury the speedometer and when I was pulling out of a parking lot, I stomped and the rear tires broke traction. Which put me sideways heading to the sidewalk. Before I did the conversion, it didn't want to get out of its own way. For the speedometer, I believe I need to check it with my GPS because I couldn't had been doing a 100+mph. It's very hard to believe that with that much fresh air coming in, it made that much of a difference. What you do you think?

Do you still have the factory air filter and ductwork at the grill area?

Yes. With the 05 grille, I feel that the grille restricted the air flow and a flap that mounted along the radiator blocked it. The 11 grille is wide open, making it perfect for the 6oh to breathe.

Your speed should be limited to about 97mph and NO I do not think the front conversion made any difference in the performance of the engine. No Idea why you feel one but the factor setup breathes perfect for these motors

Just so everyone is on the same page here's a link to his build. I often consider the swap myself and I'm sure others do to so here you go.

It's not that the conversion increased horsepower, but the huge amount of air that I get. Unless my speedometer was hugely off, I was well pass 100mph and reached 90mph quickly. I've played around with it, but it's never burned the tires like it did. Also, I'm guessing the flap by the intake was blocking the air flow, because when I was pulling the front end off, I noticed that the flap covering the hole for the intake and knew that couldn't be good.

I understand it loves fresh air, but I was in amazement in the stock 6.0 from take off and top end.

Thanks Mr. 87. I drive it like I stole it sometimes and I was speechless how it was performing. Maybe I haven't driven it enough to know it can do either, because it hasn't been driven alot since I got it this past October.

Got any pics of said "flap" that covers the intake? Curious to see if my 05 has it...

If you were past 100 it's tuned. Like Catapeed said......about 97mph is the factory limit.

No tunes on my 2004 and I've been at 100 and it seemed like it had more to give.

It would be interesting to see what the fuel mileage change is. If indeed, you're getting more air/hp, etc, the volumetric efficiency has to improved and with similar driving conditions, your mileage should increase.
Now for the real test!

We had been welding on the Ex that week and now worry that maybe it erased the computer. The batteries was both disconnected and properly grounded it out.
