'91 Aerostar factory radio harness problem...
I just purchased a Koss MS128 CD player to replace the factory Radio/Tape deck that is is installed in my 1991 Aerostar, but I'm having trouble identifying the wires on the ford harness.
Would any of you be able to tell me which wires (colors) from the CD Player/CD player's harness are to connect to Ford's harness (colors)?
Below is a picture that I took of the CD Players wiring chart.
Thanks,
Thaddeus
We didn't have enough time to hook up the radio tonight, so I only paired the +12v ignition wire from the CD Player to the +12v ignition wire of the harness to see if the CD Player would turn on...but it didn't.
Would this be because we didn't connect the +12v Battery/"Memory +12v" wire of the CD Player to that of the Ford's harness.
Thanks again for the help.
My next task is to replace those factory 6x9's with something better...when funds permit.
At first only the front speakers worked, but after a little bit of trial and error, we realized that the wiring diagram had Ford's wiring harness' +/- rear speaker wires reversed.

I have a 89 Aerostar XL with the Rear Headphone /Remote control box.
After doing two days of homework, I just changed my original AM/FM/Cass out with a new AM/FM/CD and had excellent results.
Here is what I found out along the way.
1. The wiring of the Aerostar Radio is different than most Ford Radios. It uses a SINGLE ground for all the speakers. (the Left Front ground is common to all the speakers)
The wires used typically as grounds for the other speakers are used for the rear remote "seek up", "seek down", "seek memory" buttons.
Connect all of the speaker ground wires together with the Left Front Ground wire of any of the Aftermarket Wiring harnesses. Leave the other three wires unconnected.
2. Unless you actually have a seperate Graphic Equalizer and Amplifier (you will not be able to miss it) there is NO extra amplifier for the rear speakers.
Here is the order of the wiring for connectors
[Description (Wire/Stripe) Color]
Grey Connector:
1. 12V direct thru fuse box for Memory (LtGry/Yel)
(so not to loose programmed channels)
2. Blank
3. 12V thru Ignition switch (Yel/Blk)
4. Display illumination. (Org/Blk)
5. Ground (Blk)
6. Antenna Control (Org/LtBlu)
Black Connector:
1. Left Front (Org/LtGry)
2. Common (Blk/Wht) - For ALL Speakers
3. Left Rear (Pnk/LtGry)
4. Seek Up (Red/Blk) - Rear Remote
5. Right Front (Wht/LtGry)
6. Seek Down (Org/Blk) - Rear Remote
7. Right Rear (Pnk/LtBlu)
8. Seek Memory (Brn/Org) - Rear Remote
The rear remote has a switch labled "speakers on". This is simply a DPST switch that breaks the connection of each of the drive outputs going to the rear speakers. The rear speakers on the rear hatch are wired in parrallel with the 6x9 main rear speakers.
Hope this helps.
Good luck to all.
