I'm replacing the shocks on my '97 AWD, it is just a typical driver without offroad stuff. I see pricing ranges from $75 to $320 for a full set of four, most name brands run $140 to 200, that includes, KYB, Rancho, Belltech, Monroe and others.
Anybody have any reccommendations?

I am bias but I would look to the RS5000X or RS5000.
Most shock companies have some sort of warranty too, so save that receipt.
Good luck on your choice.

I found the KYB Gas-a-Just to be under-damped, especially in the front. And the installation instructions are poor, if not wrong. I didn't notice much, if any, difference in ride after changing out the stock shocks with 160k on them.

I used the KYB on a couple projects and didn't get that gut feeling that I want.
I'm leaning to getting the Ford shocks, my thinking is if I am driving the truck as Ford intended they would have provided the best possible shock. If had raised it, taken it offroad etc then I would need a different shock and an aftermarket shock would be better.

I haven't done anything yet, I'm getting ready to go on vacation and it'll sit covered up until I get back in October. I don't drive it much at all, it really is a nice little truck and want to keep it that way. Probably get it repainted then too, before it gets too cold.
