shock info

Just to inform, bought some Monroe Instatrac shocks, to replace the factory shocks with 68,000 miles. The factory shocks were better at 68,000 than the Monroes new. Wasted my money. Joe

What do you mean by "better"? Just curious cause to some that means a firmer ride, some a cushier ride, among other things. Thanks.

I relpaced the stock shocks on my 97' F-150 when they were approx 2.5 years old an 40,000km on them..... I replaced them with monroe Reflex shocks and could not be happier. They were a tad stiffer than stock and made the truck handle (both with and without a load) a lot better.

I have close to 200,000km on the odo now and the shocks are starting to get soft.... I think it's about time for a second set (even tho they are working fine now)

I replaced my shocks with the rancho rsx shocks (the fx4 package shocks) after owning my truck 2 months. major difference in the body roll going around corners and it felt like a truck for the first time. i got my supercrew in april of 2000 and fx4 wasn't available yet but after having these shocks i know why ford uses them.

Since we are on the topic of shocks: what is the average life span of the factory ford shocks? I have 69,000 miles on the shocks, I think b/c i bought it used

And has any one used the rancho's with the in cab adjustment or is that just a waste?

Looks like I bought the wrong Monroes. I had not heard of the Reflex, and had good results with the Instatracs on my previous truck[gmc].On my 2000 F150 they seem to be valved far to softly. The factory shocks were still firm at highway speeds, they were just getting real loose over speed bumps and such. It is probably just personal taste, I like a firm shock at speed. Joe

I changed to Monroe "Reflex" shocks on my '02 S'crew @ 85000 miles and it made a world of difference. Couldn't be happier with the shocks, but then maybe my old ones were in worse shape than the "norm".
