I'm looking to buy a used 2005-2007 6.0L and bought a ScanGauge to take with me when I look at the next truck I'll be considering. I dont have a truck now and I see that the ScanGauge derives power from OBD port of the truck. Is there any other way to set it up in advance? thanks.
Hook it up to another vehicle that has an OBD port and use that power. The scan gauge doesn't care where it gets its power. You just won't be able to test your PID's

This is good advice. But like FiznUKa said, you can't test your PID's. So just make sure you take your time putting in the codes.

Finally!!!!! Someone who does the right thing when going out to look at these trucks before purchase!!!
Congrats on getting the ScanGauge II. It will help out alot!
Be sure to report back with the numbers you get with the trucks you look at.
You can buy them pre-programmed.
You can Google how to put 12v to it, something like pin 1.
Then watch a video on how to enter the PIDs.
Use coupon code TRT30 at Advance Auto, buy on line and do in store pick up. That code will save you $50 off the price.
Thanks for the response.
I've watched multiple youtube videos so far, now based on the workaround suggested (hook to any vehicle's OBD port), it's time to actually do it!!
I appreciate the coupon, someone else could use it as I already purchased it on walmart.com for about a month ago, I just checked price now it's at $136.00 so using your coupon someone could save about some $$.

Here is a helpful vid from DTR God rest his soul.
I also bought one BEFORE I pulled the plug and bought our sons truck. The only thing it didn't tell me was my HPOP would go out two weeks after I bought it
No software will do that.
