My daughter's 2000 Merc Mountianeer had the CEL come on yesterday. As she lives about 60 mi away, I asked here to swing by a local parts store to have the codes read.
She called and said that the guy at the parts store said that there was no power coming from the vehicle at the test connector. I did verify the following from her.
1) The power was "on" on the code reader
2) The ignition switch was turned to "on"
3) The parts guy checked the fuse, and it's good.
Remove and replace parts guy. Read codes just fine
Aagitch, you were right. My daughter came home this weekend, and I hooked up the code reader and it read the codes just fine.
I pulled a P0455 (EVAP leaking) code. I've cleared the codes, and it hasn't returned. I had asked my daughter to check the gas cap, which she did, but didn't notice anything abnormal, but the CEL was still on unitl I cleared it. I was wondering if the code not clearing by itself is normal for this type of code, or is there something else that I need to check for. If so, I'm open to suggestions on what else could commonly cause this code to appear.
