Vehicle Registration - Tags for my F450
My current truck F350 has organizational vanity tags on it.
Maryland MVA says that organizational tags can be placed on any vehicle 1 Ton or Less. My F350 fits in that class (which is Class 3) but where does the F450 fit? MD says that my F450 at 14,000 lbs. is also in (Class 3).
I have always thought as the F450 as a 1.5 ton -- but does Ford even use that designation any more?
Your help would be appreciated. I would like to keep my organizational tags but its not looking good.

What's confusing is that Maryland uses both terminology. In the vehicle registration section they refer to Class 3 vehicles (10,000 to 14,000 lbs).
In the specialty tag (organizational tags included) section they do say 1 ton or less.
Like most things at the MVA it will depend on the clerk I get the day I transfer the tags.

my 2010 f-450 dually has a GVWR of 14500....so it would be over
but in NY, your plates can be PAS if you modified your truck to be a suburban vehicle and the NY statue explains that with a list of things that are "or", "or", "or", often confused as meaning "and", "and", "and".
check your insurance company...some don't insure f-450's and some banks dont fiance f-450's as "they" consider f-450 commercial vehicles.

After my experience at the MVA registering my 250 and keeping my 150 tags, and all the Jeep registrations I have been through (historic, etc...) My philosophy is "say as little as possible". Just go in and proceed with the registration and say "I want to keep these tags". I find saying less is the smoothest approach and lets the drone just punch the keys without thinking...
I was at the Bel Air office too, which I assume you will use based on your profile. Good luck...

in ny they have pop up screens with OEM data in it so they get to tell you what your truck weights, what your trucks GVWR is, what your trucks unlaiden wieght is, etc. if you want to debate that you have to check off the block that says I modified my vehicle to change my registration class and then in writing within the remarks indicate which allowed modification you did, then you get PAS plates.
PAS plates are important in NYC...with commerical plates you cant park in a residentual area for more than 2 hours (including your driveway), you can not use parkways, and you loose a lot of ezpass discounts.

My 99 F450 comes up as a commercial vehicle in the Michigan Secretary of State computer and thus requires commercial "gvw" plates.
The minimum plate is for gvws up to 24000 lb, so it ends up being plated well in excess of the trucks actual gvw capability.
Pickup plates are not allowed.
The only other options ate farm or log plates, if you qualify . Both have restrictions.
