Deciding on a spark plug for the 215. I would like to use the Iridium plugs but not sure which ones fit. Planning on using an HEI or Duraspark II dist. out of a 300 with an MSD 6A so it should be a hot spark which is why I am second guessing using the stock copper core plugs.
Anyone have experience with the Iridiums in the old sixes?
My BIL had put the iridium plugs in his Jetta before my daughter bought it. 3 years old and the electrodes were wore down to where there was hardly anything left. Almost 5 bucks a piece. Not worth the money.
No need to go crazy on a low compression engine. However... the Load-a-matic advance unit leaves a lot to be desired. A distributor from a later model 300 can be modified to fit and introduce centrifugal advance. If you're the handy sort it isn't very difficult, see: Help with 215 OHV I6 2x1 set up - Page 2 - The Ford Barn Likewise the iridium plugs, just overkill on an old, carbureted, low compression engine. The plugs will foul out long before they wear out. No amount of spark can prevent that, especially on a straight six with a single, antique carb (read: two fat cylinders, two lean cylinders, two just right cylinders - if you're lucky.)
