I decided to put new window seals around my 1978 Ford F-250. I bought the window weather strips, as well as the beltline channels, from LMC Truck website. The installation went fine. The issue I am having is this.....the seals are so tight that the window does not come down when I crank the window down. In other words, the window is getting held up by the tight seal caused by the beltline channels. As you know, these windows operate by gravity...the window sits in a holder, and when you crank the window, the holder comes down and the window comes down with it.
In addition, the crank is really easy to turn in one direction, but very hard to crank in the other direction. I have lubricated the crank mechanism, but is it still pretty hard to crank.
Does any one have any tips on how to handle these two issues? It is a bummer to buy all these seals and install them correctly, and then have the window get hung up by the seal. I still can't understand why the crank is so sticky even after I lubricated it...
Hello, I just did this on my 250 and had the exact same problem. I bought them from LMC as well. Remember how they are different lengths? I wasn't sure what one went were or really how it went. I installed it all and it was nice and tight on the way up but no way you could lower. It just bound up. I did a search on YouTube and there are 2 guys that sell from a different company and they have a bunch of videos on weatherstripping install. Turns out I did it wrong. I used the front (vent window) on the back and... You get the picture... Not sure if this is your problem but it was mine and I had the exact same issue. I messed mine up so bad I had to re buy the piece... I was pissed to say the least but as soon as I did it like the video it works perfect... Like butter.. I wish I had watched the video first.. If you search I'm sure you'll find it.. If you can't let me know and I'll link it..
Not saying you did yours wrong but doesn't hurt to take a look see.
The 4 beltline (anti-rattle) weather strips are different from each other.
Right side shown in pic: Right Inner (21452); Right Outer (21456); The Left Inner is 21453; The Left Outer is 21457.
The 21536 door glass side/upper weather strips are the same right & left.
The 21546 division bar weather strips are the same right and left.
Notice the 262A32 nylon window roller. Connects to the 23200 window regulator on one side, the other fits into the 21458 window channel that the door glass is affixed to.
When the roller breaks, the window binds up or falls down to the bottom of the door.
