i have lost about a gallon of coolant in the last year and want to see if it is a head gasket problem. I have replaced the cap but have seen coolant residue on the new cap.
Let me clarify what I am looking to do. I should have said combustion gas appearing in the coolant.
There has been white coolant residue on the outside of the radiator cap. I changed the cap but still have seen the residue on the new cap. This caused me to want to test the coolant for Combustion Gases as a test for a blown head gasket. The residue indicates thecap has opend beyound the 16 lbs setting.
My original question was where was a good point to tap into the vacuum line to supply vacuum to the tester.
Dip stick appear fine. I am using Valvoline Synthetic.

I thought the dealer sold test kits or strips to check and see if you have combustion products in your coolant. Usually if you're pumping exhaust into the coolant the engine warms up very quickly and the degas bottle will have pressure in it.
I have a test tube and the fluid for the test but my question was a good place to attach a vacuum line to power the test. It looks like I will just use a hand held vacuum pump as the Ford vacuum lines are not easily detached.
Are you trying to pull a vacuum on the cooling system? If I knew where you wanted to tap into the system I'm sure we could find a convenient port. If it is the cooling system, take you old cap and put a fitting in the top of it and use that.
