Yes its a public forum but unknowledgeable people say what you said though. I mean cmon all old cars ranged between 4 and 12 degrees timing from the factory how the hell did you come up with 34 to 38 degrees. I figure you are talking about total advance but now since you have yet to specify that you are in deed talking about total advance its implying you ment that as initial which is very scary.

As far as getting over myself, sorry I'm not the one talking about setting ignition timing at 34 to 38 degrees right after stating to get a vehicle started and use a timing light to set the timing.

Slight clarification to both of you... this is a privately-owned forum (owned by Internet Brands) that is publicly viewable BUT you need to sign up and agree to their terms in order to post here.

Not public at all.

Correct. I say public forum to mean anyone can view it without being a member either paying or free. That means correct information should be provided as some people do internet searches for information and stumble across this site. I do all the time at work when looking up things that identifix does not provide information on.

I like the idea of correct information being posted, in fact I like it a LOT. And when I first became a moderator here, I tried to "enforce" (as such) that.

But doing that can be a LOT of work and I am only a volunteer here (as are all the other mods). And I came to realize there are more important things in life than truck forums (especially dealing with 30 yo technology).

Officially, what we have here are people's opinions, and every such forum in existence is like this. It is nice when the information presented here is true and correct, but there is no way to verify everything without lots of work.

I do the same scouring of the Internet when I d my own research, but forums like this can be hit or miss and generally aren't known for providing accurate information (information found in these places is worth what you paid for it).

Nevertheless, I like everything to be as true & correct as is reasonably possible.

Christ on a bike, some people are so disrespectful.

If a guy wants to go above and beyond on his information to help someone, let him do it...guess what? I'm sure someone else will need that information in the future and the guy who posted the information may have saved the future reader a lot of time and trouble.

Can't people just be respectful?

Back on topic, I have no idea how to do a cap, rotor or distributor because I've only worked on my IDI, but good luck and good job OP, you are smarter than I!

Finished. Took forever to get it timed at 38 degrees BTDC.

Just kidding! I timed it at 10 degrees BTDC.
