What's the draw to the keyless ignition? I've never had it but it seems a bit silly to me... I still have to carry the key, the ignition switch is just a convenient place to keep it.
I agree. The mirror puddle lights will still turn on if you hit the unlock button on the remote fob, and will turn on from further away. I can start the engine faster by just inserting the key and giving it a quick twist compared to having to press the brake pedal and then push start. I guess I still like the familiarity of the ignition key...seems simpler to diagnose problems down the road, too.
The expense of the keyless entry is in the system for detecting the key fob... which some are better than others...

I sure miss Top Gear. Clarkson is one of the best and together they made some of the most irreverent hands down entertaining automotive "documentaries". Leno's garage just featured "The Stig" in real life. Perry McCarthy was a phenomenal stunt/race car driver.
Keyless entry sure is fun. Wife has an Audi with the system. I never take the key out of my pocket.
Touch the door, it unlocks.
Push button to start
Push button to stop
Touch the door, it lock.
Key stays in my pocket the entire time. I could do without push button start, but the entry and exit methods sure are nice. I'm too stubborn to bump up to the Lariat Ultimate to get access to the Smart Key, so I'll be locking and unlocking the old fashion way.

I also wonder if the push to start will always count down through the "wait to start" timer. I ignore it above 40 degrees or when the engine is already warm.

That would be horrible if it did. However, I think it won't wait during summer months. These 6.7's start incredibly well. Only in the coldest weather do you really need to wait - I'm talking temps in the teens - and even then they still will probably start without waiting.

We have the system on my wife's MKC. If she gets to the car first the seats and mirrors set to her settings instead of mine. Simple to correct with a push of a button. But when will they make these systems know which person is the driver? Geeeze you would think they could make it figure that out.....
This is such an ignorant thing to make optional. For years all you have to do is bump the key and the engine starts, in theory it's the same as a push button.
I bet General Motors wishes they had everything push to start after paying out at last tally over $4.1 billion in lawsuits and recalls because the key rings with everything including the kitchen sink on them started falling out on the floor and shutting down the vehicle.
Next I would expect a key with no provision for a ring so they could not be overweighted. I actually like that my F250 switch is worn so that I can pull it out 1/4 in and the buzzer stops with the door open/engine off.

You are supposed to wait???
I got so use to just tapping the key I do it year round 0 - 100 degrees

Program the key fob.
Wife's fob has a brass split ring with snap hook, mine just a chrome split ring.
Although we haven't been to the car together with both fobs yet, that I know of.
When I unlock with my fob all the settings are #2.
BTW, we don't have to go more then a 2 feet or so outside the door for the horn to beep twice (running - fob leaving mode).
Now if Harley had adopted something similar I would not have had to bring a key fob out to #2 son - twice
Haha...the "old fashioned" way would involve inserting a metal key into a door lock and turning to lock or unlock the door!!
I rented a car a couple of years ago which only had manual locks and manual windows. It makes me reliant we have become on options. Walk around and lock 4 doors and a tailgate. Really. What were they thinking. Walk. Hummmmph.

Haha. Wanna really feel it?
Make the "roll down your window" motion to a youngster under the age of 10 and ask them what it means.
