I ohm'ed the IDM wiring harness and got 3.4 ohms on most of the circuits including #2 injector. A couple came in at 7 ohms and #8 came in a 60 ohms - that was the one that was off. TB# 103 states that nominal solenoid resistance should be 2.9 ohms.
It seems that the IDM is throwing the CEL. The code is P0264 referring to a faulty or plugged fuel injector #2. Time to replace the injectors?
I would do a bit more troubleshooting before replacing the injector just yet. Basically the code indicates the IDM is detecting more current draw on cylinder #2 than expected. This is usually due to melted valve cover connections. I certainly would pull the valve cover and inspect #2 connector inside the valve cover for signs of heat damage since the glow plug wire, outside pin with low resistance and injector next pin over.
Another trick you can do for free is to swap the inside plugs 1-2 to 3-4 and 3-4 to 1-2, clear the code and do another buzz test.
Hussler, thank you so much for your help. Sure enough I pulled the valve cover and the connection to Cylinder #2 inside the cover was burnt and melted. My guess is that the batteries being 5 years old and one of them gone bad were producing a lot of amperage draw with the voltage being down and that melted the wiring harness. The amperage then crossed to the injector wiring where the IDM then shut down that injector to protect itself and the injector - just my theory.
Luckily I had a new valve cover gasket here. Installed it and the truck is running great again! I sure learned a lot from this breakdown for future issues. I would like to thank everyone for their advice and help! Hussler a special thanks to you for steering me in the right direction to solving the problem!
You did mention to check the valve cover harness right away. I pulled all the external plugs but there was no sign of melting there. Everything was under the covers. The Buzz Test located which bank was having problems so I only had to pull one of the covers. One of those things I learned - you have to look under the covers. The last time I melted a valve cover harness it was very apparent from the outside.
